During the anti-drug drive conducted by the Joypurhat District Narcotics Control Department, three drug lords were sentenced to 3 months imprisonment and fined Tk 200 by a mobile court.
Executive Magistrate Md Rifatul Islam handed down the sentence.
The convicts are Zahurul Islam, 42, son of late Abul Kashem Mandal of Shanti Nagar area of Joypurhat Sadar upazila, Ahmed Masud Parvez, 45, son of Ahmed Iqbal of Karai area and Tarazul Islam, 49, son of late Abdul Gafur Sardar of Hatil area.
It is learned that on Saturday (May 26) at 12 noon, Joypurhat Narcotics Control Department Inspector Aminul Kabir along with his fellow officers conducted an operation and arrested them while they were sitting in an abandoned room in an alley on the other side of Shapla Residential Hotel in Joypurhat.
They were later sentenced by a mobile court under Section 18 (3) of the Narcotics Control Act 2016 for disturbing the peace and order of the people by consuming drugs in public places.
