Hero freedom fighter Shaukat Ali Sarkar Bir Bikram of Chilmari of Kurigram has been laid to rest. All the bodies of the deceased were laid to rest in the family burial ground with state dignity, soaked in the love and floral tributes of thousands of people.
Today at 11 am in the Chilmari Government Degree College grounds, the funeral ceremony of the deceased was held in state honor. At the end of the Janaza, political administrators and common people paid their last respects to this legendary freedom fighter by offering wreaths. Thousands of people from different levels including the State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, Upazila Parishad Chairman of different upazilas of Kurigram, administrative personnel, local public representatives, freedom fighters and politicians were present.
Before the funeral ceremony, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md. Zakir Hossain MP, Kurigram District Administrator Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Kurigram Superintendent of Police Al Asad Md. Mahfuzul Islam, Kurigram District Awami League General Secretary Aman Uddin Ahmed Manju, Chilmari Upazila A. Acting General Secretary of League Rezaul Karim Lichu and others.
Last Monday at 5:30 AM, freedom fighter Shaukat Ali Sarkar passed away while undergoing treatment at Bir Bikram Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (Inna…Rajiun). He was 75 years old at the time of his death. He was the elected chairman of Chilmari Upazila Parishad of Kurigram for five consecutive times and the president of Chilmari Upazila Awami League. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader expressed their deep grief over the death of freedom fighter Shaukat Ali Sarkar and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
In 1972, the Government of Bangladesh conferred the title of Bir Vikram on the brave freedom fighter Shaukat Ali Sarkar for his sacrifice and bravery in the Great Liberation War.
