Police have recovered the body of a man who was found dead in Bhurungamari of Kurigram and sent it to Kurigram morgue for autopsy on Saturday.
It has been reported that Mizanur Rahman (45), son of late Shafi Uddin Bepari of Gopalpur village in Uttar Chhat of Shilkhuri Union, fell ill after drinking too much alcohol with his son Nazrul Islam of Gopalpur village in West Chhat of Tilai Union at around 8 pm on Friday. He died on the road at 12 o’clock. Another person Ershad (32) fell ill and is undergoing treatment at home. Police recovered the body at 3 in the morning and sent it to Kurigram for autopsy on Saturday morning. On the other hand, another person named Shahjamal (50), son of Ghatu Mandal of the same village, died last Thursday (June 9) due to overdose. All three of them are butchers by profession. They used to sell meat in Paglahat market. Shilkhuri UP chairman Asaduzzaman Asad said his family members were denying the use of drugs but locals were complaining that he had died due to excessive drinking. Not only that, but similar allegations have been made against those who have died before. Bhurungamari Police Station OC (Investigation) Azahar Ali said that all of them were already addicted to drugs. The body has been sent for autopsy on the basis of complaints and suspicions of local people. According to local sources, drug stalls are set up in the Paglahat Bazaar on the border every evening. Drug addicts from far and wide come here and take drugs. They say that methyl alcohol used for dyeing and rectified alcohol used in homeopathic treatment are readily available here. They think that these two people died after drinking this alcohol.
