Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members arrested a smuggler named Monirul Islam (38) with 15 pitch gold bars (weighing 1.749 kg) from Benapole border in Jessore.
He was apprehended from the Putkhali border of Benapole Port Police Station on Wednesday (April 20) morning.
The detainee was identified as Monirul, son of late Nur Mohammad of Uttarpara in Putkhali village of Benapole Port Police Station.
According to the BGB, there was secret information that a large consignment of gold would be smuggled to India through the Putkhali border. On the basis of such information, a patrol team led by Khulna Battalion Commander BA-7508 Lt. Col. Mohammad Tanvir Rahman, PSC, Engineers, Border Pillar 18/7S’s 18R Pillar from Nadirpar Zero Line approximately 25 yards north of Benapole Port in Bangladesh. The BGB patrol team conducted a search operation from the spot and arrested Monirul along with 15 pitch gold bars (weighing 1.849 kg, 150 bars).
He was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station with a case against him, BGB said.
