It has been reported that the old building of Kamat Angaria Government Primary School in Sadar Union of the upazila was demolished and a tender was called for a new building under PDP-4. The decision was taken to sell the new building at auction at a cost of about Rs 10 lakh. According to him, the auction was scheduled to be held at 11 am on Monday (May 30) at the Upazila Education Office, but the auction was secretly held in another room. The building was sold to a man named Sabuj Hasan at auction for only Tk 20,000. The locals complained that no miking or drumming was done regarding the post. They said that although there were people who bought the building for three lakh rupees in cash, the building was sold at such a low price through the syndicate. The headmaster of the school and a member of the auction committee, Mosha Ummehani, said he did not know how much the auction was for. Upazila Assistant Education Officer Md. Zakir Hossain said, “According to the estimate, we have sold at a higher price than the official price.” In this regard, Upazila Engineer Entajur Rahman said that the value of the goods received during the preparation of the estimate was estimated at Tk 95,021 and the cost of breaking (removal) of the goods was estimated at Tk 69,005. According to him, the official sale price was Rs 18,018. How could such a building be sold for only 20 thousand rupees? In response to this question, he said that according to the estimate, whatever is done has been sold. Locals allege that the auctioning gang made such estimates from the engineering department in return for a hefty bribe. The incident has caused a stir in the area.
