The election of Student Council has been completed in 143 government primary schools and 1 Shishu Kalyan Primary School in Khansama upazila of Dinajpur with the aim of inculcating democratic values ​​among the children.

Voting takes place on Thursday (June 2) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In this, seven representatives have been elected by direct vote of the students of class III to V of each school. The seven departments are Health and Resources, Sports and Culture, Tree Planting, Water Crisis, Environment Conservation, Books and Learning Materials, and Finance and Appropriation.

Under the leadership of these seven representatives, the students of the school will later carry out their various development activities.

Leaflets, posters, campaigns have all been made to the voters asking for votes. Secret booths have been set up in schools and houses in the style of national elections. Ballot boxes, ballot papers have been printed in the names of the candidates. Voters are standing in long lines at the primary school gate at the scheduled time and the presiding and polling officer is in charge of taking these votes. In this way, the students who stood to vote with great enthusiasm. Their fingers are being imprinted with ink.

The students are successfully performing their duties and the teachers of the Upazila Education Department and related institutions are supervising.

As per the guidelines of the Department of Elementary Education, students should practice democracy from childhood and respect democratic values ​​as well as tolerance and respect for the views of others, assist teachers in school teaching activities, assist in 100% enrollment and drop out, involve parents through students Student Council elections have been held annually since 2010 to ensure the participation of students in the development of school environment.

It may be mentioned that the voter list was published on May 23 and the election schedule was announced. Nomination call was made on 24th May, nomination was submitted on 28th May, nomination was selected on 29th May and list of valid candidates was published. Later on May 30, the nomination was withdrawn and the final list of candidates was published. Students are playing a key role in this election.

Zahurul Haque, headmaster of Kumaria-1 Government Primary School, said the election would create a democratic consciousness among the tender-hearted children. They will develop leadership and create a spirit of mutual cooperation.
