The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has been accused of abducting a Bangladeshi from the border in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram. The BSF captured Kamal Hossain from the zero line of Maidam border in Pathardubi union of the upazila on Saturday, June 4 at around 3 pm.
According to BGB and local sources, members of the 129 BSF Dighaltari camp of Dinhata police station in Kochbihar district of West Bengal state of India abducted a Bangladeshi named Kamal Hossain from the zero line of Maidam BOP 96/7S under Kurigram-22 BGB of Pathardubi union of the upazila.
Kamal Hossain is the son of Abul Hossain, a resident of Dakshin Banshjani village in Pathardubi union of Bhuramnangamari upazila. He was buying paddy from a house inside Bangladesh near the zero line of the border when he came across the zero line in a sack and was stopped by a patrol team of Dighaltari BSF in India. Kamal is currently in the custody of the BSF.
A source at Maidam Camp under 22 BGB Kurigram confirmed the incident. According to the source, the BGB has sent a message to the BSF to bring back the Bangladeshi who is in the custody of the BSF. The Maidam camp source said that efforts were being made to bring him back.
However, Kurigram-22 BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Mostakim was called several times but did not receive the call. As a result, his comment was not available.
