Locals are blocking the Kurigram-Bhurungamari road demanding punishment and trial for the murder of a bidi worker named Maidul Islam Bappi (22) at the Jalil Bidi Factory in the municipal town of Kurigram.
Locals have taken position in the Kurigram Riverview junction area from noon on Tuesday (May 31).
Locals blocking the road said Khokon killed Bappi and fled. Although 24 hours have passed since the murder, the accused has not been arrested yet. We will not lift the road blockade until the accused is caught and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, his mother Beauty Begum became the plaintiff in the case of Bappi’s murder and filed a murder case against the accused Khokon at Kurigram Sadar Police Station on Monday night. However, the police have not been able to arrest the accused so far.
Bappal’s younger brother Belal Hossain said, “My father is lying in bed paralyzed.” I can’t afford to marry my sister due to lack of money. Khokon brutally murdered my family’s only earning older brother. My family is now helpless. I strongly demand the administration to bring the speedy killer Khokon under the law and hang him.
Maidul Islam Bappi and Khokon Islam (32) were working in a factory called Jalil Bidi on Monday (May 30) afternoon. At that time, there was a quarrel between the two about the trivial incident of working. At one stage, Khokon stole and killed Maidul, who died on the spot. The deceased Maidul Islam Bappi was an honors first year student of Ardash Majid Degree College, Kurigram. The deceased was identified as Bappi, son of Khadem Ali of Matikata area of the city.
Officer-in-charge (OC-investigation) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station Golam Mortuza said, “We have talked to the locals about lifting the blockade.” We are trying to arrest the accused. I will be able to arrest him very soon.
